China's tire exports keep climbing: what's behind the 2026 numbers

Rows of stacked tires in a large export warehouse

China produced 1.6 billion tires in a single recent year — 39% of global supply — and remains the world's largest tire exporter by value, ahead of Thailand, Germany, Japan and the United States. For a wholesale distributor, that scale is the reason sourcing from China works at all: no other country's tire industry can fill a growing order book at this size and speed.

Growth, but not evenly

Industry export value grew 6.2% to roughly $24.7 billion in the most recent full year measured, after growth had slowed to 4.6% the year prior — largely on reduced exports to the United States as tariff exposure there increased. Overall Chinese tire exports keep growing, but growth increasingly comes from diversified destination markets rather than any single one, which is exactly why distributors selling into LATAM, the Middle East and Southeast Asia are seeing more competitive sourcing options, not fewer.

Overcapacity is the industry's real story

Persistent overcapacity across Chinese tire manufacturing keeps downward pressure on prices — good news for buyers in the short term, but it also means factories compete hard on cost, and cutting corners on materials or inspection is the fastest way for a struggling producer to protect margin. This is the environment where supplier verification and independent inspection matter most, not least.

EV tires are the fastest-growing segment

EV-specific tire exports are growing faster than the conventional segment, driven by higher load ratings, low rolling-resistance compounds and quieter tread designs that combustion-vehicle tires don't need. Distributors adding EV-compatible SKUs to their catalog now are positioning ahead of a demand curve that's still accelerating.

Scale, overcapacity and a shifting product mix all point the same direction for 2026: more sourcing options, tighter margins for factories that cut corners, and a real advantage for distributors who verify before they commit.
